One of the world’s largest medical technology companies is confirming a colossal data breach that potentially exposed the data of millions of Americans.
In a press release, Medtronic says it suffered a massive cybersecurity incident in April of 2026 after an unauthorized entity gained access to its corporate IT systems.
Medtronic says it notified the Indiana Attorney General’s Office that 3,834,294 people were affected by the incident, and the stolen data include names, contact numbers, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and health-related records.
“On April 15, 2026, Medtronic became aware of unusual activity on certain corporate IT systems. Medtronic launched an investigation with the assistance of leading third-party cybersecurity experts to determine the impact and scope of the incident. The investigation determined that from April 13 to April 19, 2026, an unauthorized actor accessed certain Medtronic corporate IT systems. With the assistance of data review specialists, we have been working diligently to determine the types of information that may have been subject to unauthorized activity and to whom they relate.”
Medtronic says it is now notifying affected individuals, while offering 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring, dark web monitoring, and identity theft restoration services. For now, the firm says it has not seen any evidence that impacted information has been publicly posted or exposed on the internet.
