A drone strike caused a fire outside the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi, according to reports, with no injuries or safety impact at the facility itself.
The Barakah plant, the UAE’s sole nuclear power facility, sits on the country’s western coast near the Saudi border. It represents a cornerstone of the Emirates’ push to diversify its energy portfolio beyond hydrocarbons.
Reports indicate the fire broke out outside the plant’s perimeter following a drone strike, with UAE authorities stating there were no injuries and no impact on nuclear safety operations.

A confirmed Iranian drone strike recently hit an oil facility in Fujairah, another emirate on the UAE’s eastern coast, injuring three Indian nationals. During that attack, the UAE military intercepted multiple missiles, signaling a clear escalation in the tempo and ambition of strikes against Emirati assets.
Previous claims of Houthi missile attacks directly targeting Barakah have surfaced in the past. UAE authorities denied those earlier reports, citing effective missile defense systems that neutralized incoming threats before they reached sensitive sites.
The Fujairah oil facility strike confirmed that Iran can reach deep into UAE territory. Analysts have been warning that a direct hit on either the UAE’s Barakah plant or Iran’s Bushehr nuclear facility could produce catastrophic consequences for the entire region.
The Barakah plant consists of four South Korean-designed APR-1400 reactor units. The UAE has not publicly attributed the latest incident to any specific actor.
For crypto markets specifically, no tokens have been directly linked to or affected by the security incidents around Barakah.
