Paris Saint-Germain has confirmed the signing of Mika Godts from Ajax for a fee of €45 million plus €10 million in performance-based bonuses. The 21-year-old Belgian left-winger will sign a five-year contract keeping him at the club until June 2031.

For a player Ajax picked up from Genk for just €1 million in January 2023, a €55 million exit represents a return on investment that would make most venture capitalists weep with envy.

From Genk to Paris in three and a half years

Godts’s trajectory has been, by any measure, absurdly steep. The Belgian attacker joined Ajax as an 18-year-old prospect with potential but no pedigree at the senior level. He leaves as the reigning Johan Cruyff Talent of the Year in the Eredivisie.

The numbers from his 2025-26 season tell the story clearly. Godts registered 17 goals and 12 assists across 32 Eredivisie appearances, a combined output of 29 goal contributions that made him impossible for Europe’s biggest clubs to ignore.

Standing at 1.76 meters, Godts is not the most physically imposing winger on the continent. At 21 years old, born on 7 June 2005, he fits squarely into the profile of a player whose best years are still well ahead of him.

PSG reportedly had to work for this one. An earlier bid of approximately €53 million was not enough to get the deal over the line. The final package of €45 million guaranteed, with the possibility of reaching €55 million through add-ons, ultimately convinced Ajax to part with their most exciting young talent.

What this means for Ajax and the Eredivisie

For Ajax, this is a bittersweet but familiar outcome. The Amsterdam club has built its entire modern identity around developing young players and selling them at significant markups. Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs de Ligt, Antony, Lisandro Martinez: the pipeline is well-established, and Godts is the latest product rolling off the assembly line.

The profit margin here is staggering. Ajax invested €1 million in Godts and will receive at least €45 million in return, with the potential for another €10 million. That is a 45x return on the fixed fee alone.
