Ripple Prime is positioning itself at the forefront of what executives call “Wall Street 2.0.” Despite an ongoing crypto winter, institutional adoption of digital assets and blockchain infrastructure is accelerating.

Michael Higgins, international chief executive of Ripple Prime, recently spoke about this in an interview with “Markets Media.” “The current crypto winter is not a digital asset winter,” Higgins stated. “Markets are moving toward 24/7 access and need always-on, blockchain-powered infrastructure to make this happen. That’s Wall Street 2.0, and Ripple Prime is leading the way.”
Ripple’s $1.25 billion acquisition of Hidden Road in October forms the foundation for this expansion.

Bolstered by access to Ripple’s massive balance sheet, Ripple Prime’s revenues have tripled year-over-year. The growth has been further supercharged by institutional demand for multi-asset clearing and financing across foreign exchange (FX), digital assets, derivatives, swaps, and fixed income.

Ripple Prime recently closed a $200 million debt facility from Neuberger Specialty Finance. The facility boosts Ripple Prime’s margin financing capacity, making it possible to extend liquidity to institutional clients operating at the intersection of legacy finance and digital markets.
Replacement of legacy bank payment rails with blockchain-based infrastructure is a key catalyst for Wall Street 2.0. Traditional prime brokerage forces institutions to post collateral exclusively during standard banking hours. Ripple Prime eliminates this bottleneck with 24/7 collateral management. It is conducted with the help of RLUSD, Ripple’s highly regulated, U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin.

Wall Street banks are expected to enter the digital prime brokerage space once regulatory frameworks crystallize, but Higgins believes legacy players face severe challenges. “The largest market makers in U.S. equities and foreign exchange are not banks anymore,” Higgins noted.
Ripple Prime’s modern tech stack applies the exact same operational workflow whether onboarding a digital asset venue, an FX liquidity pool, or a traditional equities exchange. Hence, according to the company’s exec, it can adapt much faster than legacy counterparts.
