Sandro Tonali found the net for the first time in a Tottenham shirt during a Premier League clash against Chelsea, giving Spurs the lead in a fixture that carries more financial subtext than most fans might realize.
The goal is a milestone moment for a player who cost Tottenham up to £100 million, making him the club’s most expensive signing ever.
Tottenham completed the Tonali deal on July 6, 2026, agreeing to pay Newcastle United £92.5 million upfront with a further £7.5 million tied to Champions League qualification.

That deal slotted into a summer spending spree that exceeded £230 million in total outlay under new manager Roberto De Zerbi.
Tonali himself arrived with a complicated backstory. He served a 10-month ban for gambling violations during his time at Newcastle, a period in which his wages were also reduced. The suspension is behind him now, and today’s goal suggests the on-pitch version of the player is very much back.
Kraken has been Tottenham’s official crypto and Web3 partner since mid-2024, and holds sleeve sponsor status for the club.
That means every time Tonali pulls on a Spurs shirt and scores a goal that gets replayed across broadcast and social media, the Kraken logo travels with it.
There are no Tottenham fan tokens directly linked to Tonali’s performances at this stage, and no blockchain-based engagement mechanic specifically tied to the Chelsea match. But the infrastructure of the Kraken partnership creates a foundation from which those products could eventually be launched.
Traders and investors with exposure to crypto exchange equities or tokens tied to sports-adjacent platforms should watch how Tottenham’s season develops. A Champions League qualification run, the scenario that triggers the extra £7.5 million owed to Newcastle, would also be the scenario that maximizes Kraken’s brand exposure across European football’s most-watched competition.
