USDC exchange inflows have returned to a net positive state, ending a two-month streak of outflows that began on May 11, according to CryptoQuant data, suggesting improving market liquidity conditions, although broader stablecoin market data remains mixed. The reversal comes as USDC faces mounting competitive pressure following the announcement of a rival stablecoin backed by more than 140 financial and technology firms. USDC Inflows Reverse Two-Month Outflow Trend CryptoQuant’s data shows that after shifting into a net outflow state on May 11, USDC outflows from exchanges persisted for more than two months before reversing.  The firm’s analysis indicates that US investors are once again depositing USDC onto exchanges, a pattern that has historically coincided with increased buying power and upward price movement. https://twitter.com/cryptoquant_com/status/2081651246646125047 How Is the Stablecoin Market Changing?  The broader stablecoin market continues to see moderate shifts in capital flows. According to DeFiLlama data, weekly stablecoin outflows have been declining.  The previous week recorded $121.9 million in stablecoin outflows, a significant decrease from the $1.34 billion outflow reported the week before. The total stablecoin market capitalization remains at $309.85 billion.  Source: DeFiLlama According to Token Terminal data, USDC’s market capitalization has slipped 1.6% to $72.2 billion, even as the number of USDC holders climbed 4.7% to 55.6 million. However, activity around the stablecoin has slowed. USDC transfer volume over the past 30 days dropped 22.4%, while trading volume fell 34.1%.  Despite the decline in transaction activity, the total value locked (TVL) linked to USDC rose 7.8%, suggesting continued demand for the asset across decentralized finance platforms. Circle Faces New Stablecoin Competition The inflow reversal comes days after shares of Circle Internet Group (CRCL), the issuer of USDC, dropped more than 18% after a consortium of more than 140 financial and technology companies, including Stripe, Visa, Mastercard, Coinbase, and BlackRock, announced plans for a new dollar-backed stablecoin, Open USD. The emerging competition adds context to USDC’s mixed metrics, as the asset navigates both renewed exchange demand and a more crowded stablecoin landscape. Whether the positive inflow trend holds will likely depend on how the market responds to Open USD’s rollout in the coming months. Why This Matters Renewed USDC inflows to exchanges may indicate improving liquidity conditions and buying power in US crypto markets. However, the shift comes as USDC’s issuer confronts new competitive threats that could shape stablecoin market share going forward.
