Swiss crypto platform SwissBorg unexpectedly expanded its listings, adding support for Litecoin (LTC) and Zcash (ZEC). For the European market, where regulators have been steadily cracking down on privacy coins, the Zcash integration became the biggest surprise of the week.

According to the company, the decision was driven exclusively by a surge in customer searches, with users now able to instantly exchange both coins for 12 fiat currencies and more than 400 other tokens.

How Litecoin and Zcash expanded to Europe’s regulated market despite a looming ban

Adding Zcash to a MiCA-regulated platform in September 2026 looks defiant, but does not violate the law. Unlike Monero, where anonymity is enabled by default, Zcash has a more flexible design. Its architecture separates transparent and shielded transactions.

SwissBorg, like other major players in the European market, including Coinbase, Kraken and Bitpanda, works strictly with transparent addresses. This allows it to comply with current financial monitoring requirements.

However, this legal gateway is temporary:

  • Hard deadline: On July 10, 2027, Article 79 of the EU’s new Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR) takes effect.
  • Consequences: From that date, licensed exchanges and custodians will be completely prohibited from servicing any assets with anonymization features, effectively closing off Zcash’s access to Europe’s regulated exchange sector.
  • Noncustodial status: Holding Zcash in personal wallets and conducting P2P transactions will remain fully legal in the EU after 2027.

Under these conditions, the asset has effectively forced its way into the European market: the listing coincided with Zcash’s strongest resurgence in a decade. Against a backdrop of short liquidations, the resolution of longstanding issues with its issuance model and rumors surrounding spot Zcash ETFs, the coin rallied parabolically, gaining 45% in just one week and breaking through the psychological $1,000 mark.

For an exchange, ignoring that influx of liquidity would mean voluntarily handing trading fees to competitors. Litecoin (LTC) joined the platform alongside Zcash. Its optional MWEB privacy protocol previously sparked regulatory controversy, but the underlying mechanics of “digital silver” gave the listing the necessary balance of stability.

Ultimately, despite the looming 2027 ban, Zcash and Litecoin secured recognition from a regulated European platform. SwissBorg gave traders exactly what they were looking for at the market’s peak, but with a firm, unspoken reminder: this window of opportunity will close in less than a year.
